I’m often asked what keeps me so youthful and joyous. Good genes will determine about 50%. But the other 50% is actually your responsibility. The second aspect means taking everyday care of yourself, which implies not only your physical body but also your mental, emotional and spiritual state.
Happiness, by my own definition, is having an open heart and being curious about everyday life. The truth is every child comes into this world with the capacity of giving joy. It’s within each child to have a feeling of wonder, curiosity, awe, spontaneity, vitality, flexibility, playfulness, honesty and many other characteristics of a joyous being.
Young children have vivid imaginations, creativity and sensitivity. We are naturally drawn to happy and confident people. So if you feel like you are not getting much attention, ask yourself if you are really happy within yourself.
If you have children of your own it becomes even more important as it creates an environment for them to thrive, learn, and do wonderful things in the world.
In today’s culture of adversity and rigid ideologies filled with hate, anger and fear, it’s so easy to lose these joyous qualities and harden our heart. Coupled with this, our education system is built in such a way that it often kills creativity.
I see a lot of people that are very critical, judgmental and narrow minded. I, on the other side, always had a different attitude. When I hear new information and listen to a speaker, I ask myself, “What if she’s right? I’m going to have to research that.”
Having a closed heart can be one of the reasons why you’re not seeing or meeting the right person for you, and it certainly makes you feel and look older.
The good news is that there is much you can do to reawaken the childish side of you. It didn’t go anywhere. It’s just been sleeping.
Travel to special places, visit amusement parks, go to the beach, play games and find a hobby that you really enjoy!
There are certain techniques I use with my coaching clients that let you open your heart and awaken your inner child again.
